The following list are just some of the tools you may expect to see used during the course of any standard investigation.  This is by no means, a comprehensive list.

Flashlights - At some point during the investigation the power will need to be turned off, these special flashlights are used to allow investigators to see, while at the same time maintaining their night vision.

Motion Sensors - These are used to secure quarantined areas of the investigation in order to prevent hoaxers from entering the area without being detected.

Compass - Used in the Golden Age of Ghost Hunting,  to detect electromagnetic fields by observing the motions of the needle.  They are still quite effective today.

Cameras - Used with various types of film to record visual anomalies.

Camcorders - Normally equipped with infrared imaging, these are used to record the movements of anomalies.

Thermometers - Used to measure temperature changes in the atmosphere.

Geiger Counters - Used to measure the amount of ionizing radiation any given area.

E.M.F. Meters - Two types of meters are used to detect either natural or artificial electromagnetic fields.

Audio Tape Recorder - Used to record Electronic Voice Phenomena.
